Amazon [amazon.com] has this convertible black Pro-Lift creeper in black for $36.47. Seems to retail for $60. Shipping is free.

Can't seem to find a padded creeper for cheaper anywhere I can find, much less a convertible one except at Pepboys, but I'm unable to add that to cart no matter what location and I don't live near one.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I have one like this and it's such a huge compromise for the convertible function that I ended up buying a normal one. The convertible is less stable, feels cheap, and has pinch points all over it. If you buy one, be careful with it so you don't lose a digit.
I've never used a creeper that I preferred over a piece of cardboard, and with those little wheels on that thing (unless working on a perfectly smooth garage floor), I'd definitely take the cardboard.
I've used both and share your sentiment. Using a creeper under a car means you have to be elevated that much higher. My 20 year old convertible creeper seat only sees use as a seat. And i spend the whole time sitting on it wondering if it's going to collapse. It never has, but the only thing holding the seat in place is a small bar. The only advantage is that it stores away small (thin). Other than that, cardboard to lay on and a short rigid stool would have been a better buy.

Some of those reviews on the castor nut failures and wheels seem pretty bad.

The OP Green is $50, while the black is $36.47. Like most all creepers, you do need a smooth, solid surface.

We bought two of the HF 'low profile' [harborfreight.com] on sale for $20 each and about the best creeper I have used ---Wide with tool storage on sides, roll super easy and can sit on end without flipping up like the prior models we had. The low profile sits you closer to the ground in the comfortable, contoured bottom that is an inch or two lower than normal, such as the OP. No great deals today, the shipping for certain colors has been $7.

I agree on all your points. It gets very cold where I live so laying on the creeper is nicer. I also do a lot of body work on cars (front bumper, rear bumper, vinyl wrapping) and that's when the creeper is nicer. If you're working on the engine, I'd go with a cardboard as well to catch any leaks or stains.

I used mine on the street on a sandy rocky surface, worked perfectly and I preferred that over getting dirty. Unfortunately didn't buy it during this deal though!

The Jegs version is almost always 30 iirc, had it for years. Like others said needs smooth surface and wheel mounts fail way too easy.

I'm pretty sure this is what used to be sold in Walmart for $30 about four or five years ago, and yes, the wheels have all fallen apart, with all of the ball bearings falling out and while it's still usable, I need to research and find some new wheel for it on Amazon.

This creeper does not perform well and will start to suffer with support for those over 200 lb. I agree on the cardboard!

Agree with the above. I have an older z-creeper and only ever used it as a seat until the casters gave out on me. As a creeper it was just too tall to be practical under the car.

Though I do have an old craftsman low profile creeper that I use on my driveway all the time. Beats shimmying in and out every time I realize I grabbed the wrong socket.

I've been using these for 10 years. I usually pick them up for around 25 bucks. First thing I do is throw away the wheels and put on some premium wheels. I'm a mobile mechanic with the 80 lb tool bucket. I can throw my tool bucket on it when it's in the seat position and roll it across the worst asphalt parking lots known to man. Puts my tools at a good height and is good for a seat. I only use a creeping position in a pinch. I mostly use a $3 harbor freight shipping blanket for lay down jobs.
